The prehistorical spread of Austro-Asiatic in South Asia with special reference to eastern central South Asia – a preliminary look
In my talk I will summarize preliminary research into the distribution of morpho-syntactic patterns in the languages of South Asia from three different families, above all in eastern-central South Asia, in a first attempt to unravel the linguistic prehistory of the subcontinent. To achieve this goal a small, preliminary morphosyntactic database was compiled on 29 languages from throughout South Asia based on data from published resources, original field work, as well as questionnaires sent out to researchers working on a number of languages of the region. This data base serves as the starting point for a much larger, finer-grained analysis of languages from throughout the subcontinent which is currently underway at the University of Kiel, Germany, and which will we hope will ultimately contribute to our knowledge of the linguistic prehistory of this region.
- Students are required to produce the valid Student Identity Card and its copy.
- Registration fee covers Lunch and teas for 26th and 27th, stationery, and a copy of the Society’s journal Nepalese Linguistics.
